First Teeth!

You guys, how do you get a picture of baby's first teeth? Gwen's finally popped out last Saturday (hooray! and the peasants rejoice!), but she still won't even let us look at them. We only know they are there because you can feel them with your finger (which she isn't too keen on either). I want to take a picture to document this momentous occasion. Any suggestions?

oh, and does this mean she can have cheerios now? How do I keep her from choking on them?

  1. Short of holding her down and listening to her scream, I got nothin'. And they have some new-fangled baby food "puffs" that dissolved in the kidlets' mouth, so that might be a good transition to "O's". Maybe buy a package of them and start with only them, gradually mixing the Cheerios in until she's eating only the O's.

  2. We gave Shane cheerios at 6 months. He just played with them in his mouth and gummed them until they dissolved. They dissolve pretty quickly. Every now and then he starts to swallow one before it is dissolved enough, but it rarely happens even when he first started eating them.

  3. Kids don't necessarily have to have teeth to eat more solid foods because they can't really chew until they get molars anyway. But they need to learn to chew/mush up things, so just give her some practice time. Sydney took a long time to figure out chewing, but now she's a pro. I'd also recommend using the star-shaped puffs from Gerber and let her have some Cheerios and see what happens. If she's choking often, try again at a later time.

As far as taking a picture of her teeth, I'm not sure! Martin managed to get Sydney to open her mouth while I took a picture, but you can't see her little teeth anyway... just do your best!

  4. You can try Cheerios, but they made me a little nervous until there were a few more teeth in there. Until then I stuck with the Gerber puffs. They dissolve quickly so I never worried about choking. Davin will have nothing to do with Cheerios nowadays. Oh well. As for getting a picture of the teeth . . . wait until she is in the middle of a major scream session and then snap a picture of her mouth open wide. That's my only suggestion.

  5. I aggree on the puffs thing... they're in the baby food section and once she can handle those well, then go in on the o's and other fun stuff! They dissolve in about half the time that the o's do, so if she gags on them, there's really not much danger. it'll take some practice, but she'll get it. My son had a much harder time learning to chew efficiently than my daughter did, and he had MUCH more teeth than she does, so it really doesn't have much to do with teeth. Like Cami said, they need molars before they can truly 'chew'. Till then they just gum things to death! :)

Best of luck getting a pic.. I always had to wait till the teeth came in further and would get it when they smiled. I've got the same dillemma right now - my daughter just got her first tooth on top, but she, like gwen, barely even lets us touch it let alone see it!

  6. Wait until her nap is almost over, then carefully flip open her lips while you snap a picture. Then if she wakes up, well, she was about to anyway. Or, you could just try to get a good belly laugh going. If they laugh hard enough, you can see their teeth. I'm sad I don't get to see her beautiful toothy smile! I look forward to the pictures!:)

  7. Yay!
Those baby food puff thingys were AWESOME! they even have a sweet potato flavor. There is usually sufficient slobber to get them nice and mushy really fast... hehe.

  8. Gwen is absolutely adorable! she shows her teeth to Grandma all the time, just not when the camera is pointing at her. She loves to jut them out. Until the camera comes around, then she likes to frown. But otherwise, she's all grins for Grandma
